Does Google really care about providing the best quality search engine results? This has become a hotly debated issue and with all the talk and debates, there's just speculation without any real answers from Google.
We can expect that Google's, like any mega corporation, profits are the only thing that matter. If you think Google really cares about having quality search engine results and ranking, then you are in the minority.
So what could be reasons for websites getting indexed with high page rankings? A lot of the top sites seem to be junky sites with adsense ads compared to the many higher quality sites that finish second.
That's right, it really seems from first look, that the front page has what you are looking for. But then we're disappointed over and over to see made for adsense content pages or other questionable companies that have the science of comment spam and article spinning down to a science.
Like we said earlier, Google is going to go in the direction that earns them the biggest profits. It doesn't seem to be too large of a concern if search engine quality has gone downhill every year. If they're able to keep making the big profits, then it will continue.
Most likely changes will only be made when they start losing people clicking on their adwords or adsense ads.
Are we out of line with this position?
According to the Efficient Frontier Q4 2010 U.S. Digital Marketing Performance Report, clicks that are paid to Google from their ads have risen 8% every year.
We're pretty sure Google isn't going to change anything soon as long as they're raking in the profits from Ad revenues. We just have to accept the fact that Google does offer Internet search, but they're main platform is advertising.
With all the geniuses employed there, you can't really think they couldn't change their algorithm, thus changing the quality of websites that deserve better rankings. There's no reason to change unless it's going to benefit them.
Of course, this is just an opinion and we might be going to far. But, If you're a website owner trying to figure out the SERPS, then you are just about as frustrated as everyone else.
The terrible search results have been the talk of the town across all forms of media. It's not just small time bloggers with opinions, but very popular and highly recognized blogs as well as major publications both online and offline.
It's not just a few in the crowd that are crying foul. There's more of a majority than a minority that agree, Google's search results benefit themselves at the cost of everyone else.
The good that we can take from this is that even though sound ethical SEO practices don't seem to be high on the list in Silicon Valley, using the best practices will prevail in the long-run.
Don't abandon these practices. Although they might not have as big an impact presently in ranking a website, they still work. When Google decides to tweak their algorithm again, they'll still continue to work. Don't abandon good SEO practices. In the long run sound SEO optimization techniques will continue to serve you well enough now and hopefully far better in the future.
