Every business who has gone to the trouble of creating a Facebook fan page has the same question - how to maximize traffic to their site. The truth is that, in our experience, the best ways to accomplish this are the same ones you might think of yourself if you were to sit down with pen and pad and make a list. There is however, an ideal order in which to consider them, which we’d like to spell out for you. We’ve picked the top five. By following these simple, definitely effective and generally not particularly difficult strategies, you should be more successful in promoting any fan page.
First things first, fresh, new, updated content is the best way to get and keep people interested in your fan page. If it doesn’t feel like it’s important to you, how do you expect it to stay exciting for your readers or followers? Another sure thing is that there is always more content, whether you create it, find it, or link to it. The best way to do this is in the proper use of a few simple and very common programs, primarily Simply RSS and the use of Static FBML (using the Facebook Static FBML application). Simply RSS allows the user to make automatic updates to you fan page from your blog, in technical terms ‘aggregating’ it. Or, you could also just automatically import your blog feed to the ‘notes’ section of your fan page. To do this, follow these simply commands:
Go to Home page and click on ‘Edit Page’
then click on “Applications"
click on ‘Notes’
click ‘Go to Application’, select ‘Edit import settings’
provide the URL of your feed.
Adding personal notes and welcome videos are also invariably a good way to maintain contact with viewers. It makes people feel more related to the page and to yourself. This doesn’t have to be anything huge or complicated (although huge and complicated is fine if you can pull it off), but just an honest piece of yourself. That’s why you made the page in the first place.
Static FBML (Facebook Markup Language) adds functionality to the page with a box allowing you to render HTML or FBML to control and customize the look and feel of your page. Making the visual style of your page reflect the content is always a good idea. Finally, any interactive elements will further connect people to your work. Whether this is a discussion board thread where fans can promote their personal sites or Twitter IDs, any way they can follow each other through your page will make them want to use it all the more.
But, the idea is to always be adding fresh content, to keep people interested and to keep them coming back.
The second may be the biggest no-brainer of them all, but can still be done strategically and efficiently. Invite your friends. Actually, however, it is best not to try to do this en masse, but to spend a few minutes each day inviting a selected group, ideally those you think your present content would mean the most to, or the people with whom you have most recently been in contact with. And never forget or be embarrassed to ask your friends to ask their friends, or even their friend’s friends! Promote!
Three, consider making use of social ads. Facebook advertising can cost as little as a dollar a day and has very powerful targeting tools associated with it. You can aim selectively for Location, sex, age group, education, workplaces, language, relationship status, language, any keywords, and both connections and friend’s connection by other fan pages, groups, or events. Even if this won’t cover every angle, it does go over a lot of advertising ground.
Four, Twitter. Need we say more? Anyway, we will. You can decide to automatically share links, photos, notes, status updates, events, and as always, your thoughts. Best, you can link your twitter page with one simple link:
Fifth, and finally, never forget the power of the email contacts you already have. Facebook doesn’t, that’s why they are constantly reminding you of them, whenever you go to ‘Friends’. If you work or ‘live’ on the internet, chances are high you have a great many valuable contacts in your email address book, including many you might not even know how valuable. So, remember that you can always include a link to your fan page in any email signature, whether for basic emails, customer support, and also updates or other automated messages. You can even use it in your Gtalk status, displaying the fan page URL when an IM contact hovers over your profile name.
We at Webmaster studios are sure these simple tips and strategies will allow you to increase you fan page status. And good luck!
